After the names of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Sumitra Mahajan and Sushma Swaraj coming up for the post of president of India the, latest name that is doing rounds is Draupadi Murmu, Jharkhand Governor, report said. A tribal leader, Murmu began her career in 1997 when she became a councillor and later went on to become the first woman Governor of Jharkhand when she assumed office on May 18, 2015. She is a two-time BJP MLA from Odisha and was head of the Mayurbhanj district unit of the party in the state. During the BJD-BJP coalition government in Odisha, she served as a minister in the Naveen Patnaik cabinet. In 2007, Murmu was awarded “Nilakantha Award” for the best MLA of the year’s by the Legislative Assembly of Odisha.
